Petitie
Ik weet niet waar jullie allemaal wonen, of jullie kinderen hebben en of die ook op de fiets naar school gaan. Of naar judo, de bioscoop of naar een vriendje. Ik weet wel dat fietsen in Amsterdam een ware survivaltocht is. Met soms een dramatische afloop, zoals onlangs het overlijden van Boris die op het Marnixplein niets kon doen tegen een hele grote vrachtwagen.
Dan kun je denken: shit happens; vast weer zo'n kind dat de verkeersregels aan z'n laars lapte; ik woon gelukkig in een heel rustig dorp, bij ons is alles heel overzichtelijk in het verkeer. Je kunt ook denken: godverdergodver. Waarom was die vrachtwagen daar uberhaupt? Waarom is er geen afgeschermd fietspad? Waarom zegt de wethouder van verkeer altijd dat het heus niet zo gemakkelijk is om een verkeerssituatie ingrijpend te veranderen en dat dat consequenties heeft voor heel veel partijen? Waarom moet er altijd een vreselijk ongeluk gebeuren voordat er wel de moeite wordt genomen prioriteiten te stellen, er eens goed voor te gaan zitten met al die partijen?
Om dat aan de kaak te stellen, en met doelgerichte plannen bovendien, is er deze petitie:
Amsterdam moet veiliger voor fietsers.
Die kan je dus ondertekenen. Duurt ongeveer een minuut, nou ja, je moet een bevestigingslink uit je mailbox aanklikken, dus zeg drie minuten. In die tijd kun je ook twee weblogs lezen of een plaatje van Michael Jackson draaien. Dit is belangrijker.
En misschien woon je helemaal niet in Amsterdam, laat staan dat je er kinderen hebt. Doe het dan voor al die ouders die zich rotgeschrokken zijn door het onnodige overlijden van de 12-jarige Boris. Die in hun nachtmerries zo'n agent aan de deur zien staan. Doe het voor jezelf, omdat je misschien wel ooit een Mac Bike gaat huren om een leuk fietstochtje door Amsterdam te maken. Of doe het voor die twee van mij, die ook door die bende heen moeten fietsen. Soms helpt er namelijk geen verkeersexamen aan, soms helpt alleen heel hard schreeuwen met z'n allen. Onderteken dus alsjeblieft deze petitie.

Alles is tegenwoordig onderhevig aan hightech veiligheidseisen, maar een kind op de fiets lijkt vogelvrij: het kan zo door een vrachtauto van de sokken worden gereden. Dat mag niet kunnen!
