Ring
Ooit, ergens in een ander leven in de vorige eeuw toen ik nog in een revalidatiecentrum werkte, was daar een meisje dat om haar middelvinger een soort instrumentje moest dragen. Ik weet niet wat het doel van het instrumentje was, maar de doktoren hadden dat zo bepaald. Ik werkte op de afdeling Neurologie, dus het zal haar minste probleem zijn geweest. Het was een opengewerkt dingetje dat begon bij het punt waar je hand overgaat in een vinger, en eindigde bij het laatste kootje. Ik vond het eigenlijk net een ring. Ik wilde best ook zoiets aan mijn vinger, maar dan niet ter correctie van het een of ander, maar gewoon voor de mooi.
Onlangs kocht ik na vijftien jaar een nieuwe ring voor mezelf. Soms moet dat, als een soort van ijkpunt, net als vijftien jaar geleden. Het is een grote ring, en ook al loopt hij niet tot aan mijn laatste kootje, ik moest wel aan het meisje denken toen ik hem in de winkel omdeed. Ik vond hem mooi, en misschien dat hij stiekem nog iets corrigeert ook. Het zijn vier ringen die aan de onderkant bij elkaar komen. Vier ringen, omdat vier het mooiste getal is en omdat ik vierenveertig ben geworden. Maar verder ben ik helemaal niet bijgelovig hoor.
