Ik, van de afdeling Wil Graag Groene Vingers, maar in geen velden of wegen gehinderd door enige kennis, ging eens bollen planten. Dahliabollen om precies te zijn, want Dahlia's zijn goeie no-nonsense bloemen die staan als een huis. Bij het tuincentrum schafte ik mij zo'n zakje bruin gedoe aan, en liet me vooral leiden door het kleurrijk aangehechte kartonnetje. Daar stonden hele mooie Dahlia's op en die wilde ik ook.
Eenmaal thuis, boven een grote pot met verse aarde, haalde ik de bruine dingen uit het zakje en bekeek ze eens goed. Rare bollen, die Dahlia-bollen. Ik wist bijvoorbeeld niet wat de boven- of onderkant was, en draaide het geheel wat in het rond. Ergens zag ik een klein paaltje, en ik bedacht dat uit dat paaltje wel eens een takje zou kunnen komen. Dus dat dat paaltje dan maar de bovenkant moest zijn. Aldus pootte ik de knolletjes in de bak en hoopte er verder maar het beste van. Gelukkig viel er genoeg water uit de lucht om de zaak te bespoedigen.
En zie! Plantjes! Ik ben er zo trots op! Nog nergens een Dahlia te bekennen, maar het feit dat je iets blind in een pot aarde stopt, en dat er dan op een goed moment zomaar iets uitkomt, tjonge! Ik vind dat ik nu op z'n minst één groene vinger heb.
